The buzz about fruit flies in your wine — and how to keep them out.

What's The Buzz about Fruit Flies

When fruit flies lay their eggs on fermenting fruit, (or in your bottle of wine), they deposit fecal matter on the egg sacs to support healthy microbes in their larvae. In other words, if a fruit fly lands in your wine, it’s probably not just tasting... it’s contaminating.

Why It Matters

A single fruit fly can do more than just ruin the mood, it can ruin the wine. Researchers Peter Witzgall and Paul Becher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences discovered that female Drosophila melanogaster (common fruit flies) release a pheromone at a rate of about 2.4 nanograms per hour to attract mates. Their work led them to investigate whether this chemical could be responsible for reports of wine tasting “off” after a single fly landed in the glass, and sure enough, the connection was real. Add to that the risk of bacteria or larvae, and it’s easy to see why wine lovers need to take fly prevention seriously.

How Bug Me Knot™ Protects Your Pour

Our patent-pending wine aerator doesn’t just enhance aroma and flavor — it also forms a protective barrier to keep fruit flies out of your bottle of wine. No more ruined pours, frantic swatting, or wasted wine. Protect, pour, and enjoy every sip with peace of mind.

This aerator truly works! No more fruit flies ruining my wine experience.

Several wine glasses are aligned on a wooden table, each filled with chunks of yellow fruit, possibly pineapple or similar. In the background, a blurred figure appears to be clapping or gesturing with hands together. Bottles are arranged on a shelf, slightly out of focus, suggesting a setting like a bar or winery.
